LIFE SAVING DRIVER TRAINING FOR YOUNG DRIVERS The Lockyer Valley Safe Driver Training Program was the inspiration of founding member and president Roz Flanagan. Her intention is to raise awareness and do something constructive that would help save the lives of young drivers. Roz said, “We were losing too many young drivers to our roads. Our group raises money to subsidize young drivers to attend a Safe Drive Test Drive at Willowbank. So far we have raised enough money to send over 380 young drivers and they are all still alive.” The program, now in its fourth year of operation, is a very informative hands-on course that teaches young drivers what they don’t know, in a controlled environment where they can make ‘mistakes.’ For young drivers, L.V.S.D.T.P. is offering SomersetRegion.info readers in our region, the opportunity to take part in the course at a considerably reduced cost. Normally it’s $165.00 but through the group only $55.00. I On the 26th May the group is holding a Trivia Night at the Blenheim Hall – their third Fundraising Trivia Night; at the previous two $1800.00 was raised. The proceeds were distributed to high schools throughout the Want to know more? Call Roz on 5466 4398. The students formation of a G and V near the road, were filmed by cameraman onboard the helicopter. Joseph conducted a talk for Grades 3 to 7 about his role as a weather presenter and as well, on the different features of the weather. The whole school also heard about the parts of the helicopter from Pilot John. Prep, 1 and 2 class had a lot of enthusiastic questions for Pilot John who was very happy to answer all of them. School captains, Brittney Zahnow and Chad Clark took Joseph on a tour of the school and spoke about the different projects the school has operating such as the Worm Farm. He watched as the school captains released some pacific blue eyes fish into the pond. Joseph presented the school with an electronic weather station and a rain gauge as a gift for inviting him to the school. The students were thrilled that night to see themselves on the weather segment of Channel 9 news and how great their small rural school looked, even though dry. Perhaps you do not have one at all. Preparing a Will is essential. Leaving a clear guide of how you want your assets distributed by your chosen executor/s is cost efficient and may avoid lengthy court battles over “who gets what”. Dying intestate (without a Will) means that there is no guarantee that your assets will be distributed as you would like them to be. The Public Trustee offers a professional, free, Will-making service to all Queenslanders over the age of 18. Their process is quick and easy, using a specifically designed Will-making system to ensure that your Will caters to your individual needs Making a Will with The Public Trustee also means there is no risk of your Will being lost or destroyed because we keep the original in safe deposit at no charge. The Public Trustee will be visiting Esk on the 31st of May. This is an opportunity for people to have their will prepared or updated for free. Even if the Public Trustee is not nominated as the executor of the Will it is still free. The Public Trustee can also assist you with an Enduring Power of Attorney. This is a document with instructions on who and how your affairs will be looked after if you are incapacitated. Appointments are limited.
